Reputation Amongst Bettors

The great thing about online betting is you will be able to find reviews on every wagering platform. This takes a lot of the difficulty out of choosing an online sportsbook or casino.

If you cannot find a good review on a sportsbook, it is probably not the best platform. When you find a site that has rave reviews, you will likely be pleased with this platform.

Bettors all want easiness and accessibility when placing online wagers. Therefore, support from a large number of people usually means that a site is legit. See all Free Bets & Risk Free Bets

Platform Maneuverability

Betting is very stressful, so you never want to play on an online sportsbook that is hard to use. When you check out a sportsbook, you should be able to find your desired bets and lock in a wager without difficulty.

The worst sportsbooks are the ones that are cluttered with ads or overloaded with things that do not help you win money. If you are overwhelmed by the book because of its inaccessibility, try a new platform.

Size of Sportsbook

The best sportsbooks offer a lot of markets and wager types. Do not settle for anything less than this because it shows how much a sportsbook values its players.

You should look for a site with a massive market for major sports and a wide variety of bets for non-mainstream competitions as well as overseas events.

If a sportsbook offers many prop bets for all sports, this is usually a good sign that a sportsbook is enjoyable. If a book just offers the traditional wagers, move onto a new online betting site.

Online Casino

An online casino feature is not critical for some people, but it’s always good to have choices. If you have an online casino attached to your sportsbook, it will give you more betting options. For a player who likes all types of gambling, look for a platform that is an all-inclusive betting site.

There are online betting sites that offer casinos and sportsbooks, so do not settle for a platform that does not if you want to have a variety of wager choices.

Competitive Odds and Lines

The point of sports betting is to win. Competitive lines and odds help you accomplish this goal. When you are comparing sportsbooks, look at odds for the same game.

The better sportsbook is the one that gives you an enhanced line or odd. If you do this for multiple games, you will be able to determine the better option.

Payout Speed

When you win, you want to receive your money. Check out payout speeds before committing to a book. Ideally, it’s best to find a site that provides instant payouts meaning under 24 hours. If a sportsbook takes two weeks to deliver your winnings, this is not a reputable book

Where is it Legal to Bet on NFL

Sports betting in the United States continues to grow, and there is no slowing down this massive industry. Nevada used to be the only real sports betting option in the country, but that is no longer the case.

There are currently 20 states and Washington D.C. that have legal sports betting, and that number will grow by the end of 2021. Here is a brief look of where it is legal to bet on sports in the US, and what the market looks like in each state.

Arkansas

Arkansas sports betting officially launched on July 1, 2019, at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort. The Saracen Casino Resort was able to offer betting just a few months later, giving bettors another option.

All betting in Arkansas must be done in-person, and online options are not available at this time.

Colorado

Colorado joined the US sports betting industry on May 1, 2020, and the state has seen tremendous growth since that time. Online options were available in May, but retail sports betting has started to become available in recent months as well.

Colorado has been able to attract some of the biggest names in the sports betting industry including:

  • BetMGM
  • BetRivers
  • DraftKings (take a look at our article on the DraftKings Gift Card)
  • FanDuel
  • PointsBet
  • WestGate SuperBook

Delaware

Delaware was the first state to offer legal sports betting after the federal ban was lifted in May 2018. The three casinos in the state began taking bets in June 2018, and all betting must be done in-person.

William Hill has an agreement in place with the Delaware Lottery, and that company powers the sports betting at the three casinos listed below:

  • Delaware Park Casino
  • Dover Downs Hotel & Casino
  • Harrington Raceway & Casino

Illinois

Illinois launched sports betting in March 2020, just days before the sports world was shut down due to COVID-19. Both online and in-person betting is legal in Illinois, and the state has been able to attract some of the biggest names.

As of March 1, 2021 there five online sportsbooks are live in Illinois:

  • BetRivers
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • PointsBet
  • William Hill

Indiana

The Hoosier State launched retail betting in September 2019, and online betting was launched just one month later. Online betting has led the way in terms of handle and revenue, but there are a number of solid in-person options.

Here are some of the top online sportsbooks in Indiana:

  • BetRivers
  • BetMGM
  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • William Hill

Iowa

Iowa recently removed the in-person registration requirement for sports betting, and it should allow the market to grow in 2021. Both online and in-person betting is available, and Iowa casinos are now able to have three online skins.

Sports betting in Iowa officially launched in August 2019.

Michigan

Michigan launched retail sports betting in March 2020, and online betting was first offered in January 2021. Michigan has just three commercial casino properties, but it has a number of tribal locations.

There are already more than a dozen online MI sportsbooks available in the state including:

  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • PointsBet
  • BetMGM
  • Barstool

Mississippi

Mississippi first launched sports betting on August 1, 2018, and technically both forms of sports betting are available. DraftKings, William Hill, and Penn National are three companies that now offer betting in the state.

There are more than 20 retail sports betting locations in the state of Mississippi, and all online betting must be done on these properties as well.

Montana

Montana sports betting launched in March 2020, but there aren’t many options in the state. The Montana State Lottery launched an online sports betting app, but it can only be used when on the property of a licensed facility.

Nevada

Nevada has long been considered the king of sports betting in the US, but that has started to change. This state is still a huge sports betting market, with nearly all of the biggest names offering sports betting.

Both retail and mobile sports betting is available in Nevada, but there is an in-person registration requirement when signing up for a new account. BetMGM and the WestGate SuperBook are two of the biggest and best options in the state.

New Hampshire

Sports betting officially launched in New Hampshire on December 30, 2019. DraftKings has a deal with the New Hampshire Lottery, and it is the only mobile betting option in the state.

Retail betting is also offered at some casino properties in New Hampshire, and DraftKings offers that sports betting as well.

New Jersey

New Jersey sports betting launched in August 2018 after being one of the biggest reasons that the federal ban was lifted. This is now a giant in the sports betting industry, with both in-person and online betting available.

Retail sports betting is available at the casinos in Atlantic City, but New Jersey has made a killing off of online sports betting. This is now the largest sports betting market in the United States, and NJ boasts an impressive list of options:

  • Bet365
  • BetMGM
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • Fox Bet
  • Golden Nugget
  • Points Bet
  • SugarHouse Sportsbook
  • William Hill

New Mexico

New Mexico has yet to officially legalize sports betting, but some Native American tribes in the state have started taking wagers at tribal casinos. This is the first state to offer betting without a specific law, but all of the betting must be done in-person at these casinos.

New York

As of March 1, 2021, all sports betting options in New York are limited to physical sportsbooks. This has put a huge limit on the amount of sports betting growth, but this is a state that could see online sports betting coming in the near future.

New York sports betting first launched in July 2019 and companies such as DraftKings and FanDuel have launched a retail sportsbook.

Oregon

The Scoreboard app is the only mobile betting option in the state of Oregon, and it is a product of the Oregon Lottery. Sports betting officially launched in 2019, even though Oregon did not need to pass a new law to be able to offer sports betting.

Retail betting is available at tribal casinos throughout the state, but there are no commercial locations.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was one of the first states to launch sports betting in 2018, and online sports betting came along in 2019. This state has become one of the three biggest markets in the US, and could eventually rise to number two.

Both in-person and online betting is available in PA, and the following PA sportsbooks are up and running:

  • BetMGM
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel Sportsbook
  • Fox Bet
  • Unibet
  • BetAnySports

Rhode Island

Rhode Island first launched retail sports betting in November 2018, and online betting was first offered in early 2019. There are just two retail sports betting locations in the state, and only one mobile operator.

In-person betting can be done at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln or at the Twin River Tiverton Casino. William Hill offers sports betting at those locations, and it is the only online option available.

Tennessee

Tennessee became the first online-only sports betting market in the US when it launched on November 1, 2020. There were just four mobile options available at that time, but that number is expected to grow.

Here are the four online sportsbooks available in Tennessee:

  • Action 24/7 Network
  • BetMGM
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel

Virginia

Virginia went live with sports betting in January 2021, and online options were available at that time. Retail sportsbooks will also be available at a future date, but casinos must first be constructed.

There could be as many as 12 online VA sportsbooks in the state, and sites such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and William Hill are already live in Virginia.

Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. launched sports betting near the end of May 2020, through sports betting app called “GamBet.” The D.C. Lottery offers the online sports betting option in the state, but retail betting can also be offered.

William Hill has launched in-person betting at Capital One Arena, but an official sportsbook has not yet been set up at that location.

West Virginia

In August 2019, sports betting went live in the state of West Virginia for the first time. Both in-person and mobile sports betting options are available, but that hasn’t always been the case.

Online betting was actually shut down for a few months due to some legality issues, but those online sites are now back up and running. Bettors in West Virginia have some terrific options including:

  • BetMGM
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel
  • WilliamHill

Other Betting Products?

When most people think of betting, the first thing that comes to mind is sports. Sports is a prevalent market to wager, but it’s not the only betting product on the market. It can be exhilarating to bet outside of just traditional sports, but you must know what markets to view.

Here are some other betting products besides sports.

Politics Betting

Politics is an excellent market for wagering throughout the world. Unless it’s an election year, most political wagers are future bets. This is because of the cyclical nature of politics. However, sportsbooks offer a ton of bets in the buildup to a presidential election.

Choosing a candidate straight up to win is the most common bet in politics. Although, prop bets are a fun wager to test your luck. Sportsbooks provide props for debates as well as for voting demographics when citizens head to the ballot box.

In the debates for the 2020 Election, a vast number of props revolved around Joe Biden and Donald Trump. For Biden, you may see, “How many times will Biden stutter?” For Trump, an example would be, “How many times will Trump interrupt Biden?”

Additionally, you could bet on the candidates’ clothes and the family members in the crowd. Politics is the second biggest market behind sports betting that generates a large handle during an election season.

Show Business Betting

When wagering show business, it usually revolves around the award shows like the Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, Academy Awards, and the Golden Globes. The Grammy Awards recognizes achievements in the music industry. The Emmy Awards honor the television industry.

The Academy Awards and the Golden Globes reward people and the products of the film industry. These two shows are the most wagered events of the four. Show business is trendy to bet because of the excitement and anticipation.

Sports is a niche category that does not appeal to everyone. Typically, everyone is interested in either music, television, or movies, so these four award shows generate a lot of attention.

If you are looking to bet show business, the primary bet is to predict the winner in the individual award categories. There are also show props that deal with the entertainment, people presenting the awards, and the red-carpet entrances.

Esports Betting

Esports betting has swept the world since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the nation. With traditional sports not playing, esports was one of the only remaining betting markets. Esports is an extensive category, and it’s starting to become mainstream.

If you are betting esports where gamers are playing traditional sports, the odds and lines on sportsbooks will be similar to a regular game. You will have the moneyline, spread, and over/under, as well as various prop bets.

There are also esports leagues for other games such as Call of Duty, Counterstrike, Rocket League. There is an esports league that will appeal to most bettors. You can watch esports leagues through Twitch or directly on a sportsbook that you are utilizing to wager.

It takes a lot of time to learn esports players and stars in leagues, but it will pay dividends if you want to be in a unique market.

Which Sports Can you Legally Bet on in the US?

Betting on sports is legal in the United States, at least in the 20 states that have passed sports betting laws targeted towards sports gambling legalization. The US sports betting industry continues to grow, setting new records each month.

Both professional and collegiate sporting events are able to be bet on, depending on state rules and regulations. A number have sports have driven sports betting since 2018, and these sports remain popular with sports bettors. If you would like to learn more about Formula 1, you should take a look at our sister site, F1Insiders.com.

Here are five of the most popular sports to bet on in the United States:

Football

The most popular sport in the United States is football, and it is the most popular sport to bet on. The National Football League leads the way, but betting on college football is also extremely popular in the Fall.

The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event of the year, and the 2021 version set new sports betting industry records in both betting handle and betting revenue. Other sports are starting to become more popular in the US, but football will always be king when it comes to sports betting. We are also currently working on including NFL Futures Picks.

Basketball

The National Basketball Association has closely aligned itself with the growing sports betting industry, and this is the second most popular sport to bet on in the US. College basketball is also popular, especially during the month of March.

Basketball is a much longer season than football, and that allows bettors to stay interested in the sport for a longer period of time.

Baseball

Betting and baseball don’t traditionally go together unless your name is Pete Rose. With the growth of sports betting throughout the United States, baseball has actually become one of the most popular sports to bet on.

Major League Baseball is the most popular league in the United States, but the Korean Baseball Organization and the Japanese League are also featured by online sportsbooks. Baseball is only played during certain times of the year, but it is a big betting market during the summer months.

Soccer

Major League Soccer is starting to become popular in the US, but it still trails the other major professional sports. Soccer is the most popular sport worldwide, and it has been a popular betting market in the US.

Leagues such as the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League are easily the two biggest and most popular with bettors, but soccer matches can be found nearly year-round. When looking for a top international betting market, soccer will be the most featured.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis is not a major sport in the United States, but it has become a popular betting market, especially in the state of Colorado. Colorado launched sports betting on May 1, and there weren’t many live sporting events taking place around the world.

Sportsbooks in Colorado were forced to find unique betting markets, and table tennis was the main sport that was chosen. Since May, table tennis has remained as one of the top-five betting markets in the state, even though the major sports have returned.

Deposit Options at US betting sites

It takes money to get into the US sports betting industry, and that means that making a deposit at an online betting site is one of the first steps to make. New deposit options continue to emerge in different parts of the country, but there are a few that remain popular throughout.

Here is a look at the most popular deposit options at US sports betting sites and a brief description of how they work.

Credit/Debit Card

The most traditional deposit option when it comes to US betting sites is using a credit or debit card. This is still an option that is included at most sites on the internet, but more popular options have emerged over time.

Visa and Mastercard are both accepted at almost all of the top US betting sites, but other credit card companies could be an acceptable form of payment as well.

Online Bank Transfer

Another deposit option that is relatively new is what is known as an online bank transfer. This allows a customer to use their checking account at their banking institution in order to fund their online sports betting account.

Some banking institutions don’t allow payments to US betting sites, and it is best to check with your bank before attempting to use this option.

PayPal

PayPal and other internet banking systems have quickly become the most common and popular way to deposit at a US sports betting site. PayPal is an extremely safe and secure site, and the payments are processed very quickly.

In order to use PayPal as a deposit option, customers can link their accounts to their sports betting account. This will allow money to be transferred back and forth in a quick manner, and the entire process is safe and secure.

PayNearMe

Some states that have legal sports betting allow for PayNearMe machines to be used as a deposit option at sports betting sites. These PayNearMe machines are usually set up at 7-11 convenience stores, and customers can access their accounts through these machines and then make a payment.

PayNearMe kiosks will accept cash, and that is why they have become a popular deposit option for some bettors. If you don’t have any PayNearMe locations in your state, then this will not be an option.

Prepaid Cards

Another popular option that is offered by several US betting sites is prepaid cards. This form of deposit works in the same way that prepaid phone cards do, and you can reload them with any amount of money that you want.

After the prepaid card is funded, you can then transfer those funds to your online sports betting account to begin making bets.

Cash

Another option that you will find at many sportsbooks throughout the United States is actually something that must be done in-person. Visiting the host casino or retail sportsbook is also an acceptable form of deposit, and you can actually use cash for this payment method.

This option will require you to do some traveling, but it can add an extra layer of security by making the payment in-person to a teller. Sites that don’t have a retail location will not allow this form of deposit.

Which Betting Bonuses are Offered

As the United States sports betting industry continues to be more competitive, sportsbooks are always looking for a way to gain an edge. The best way to gain an edge is by having the biggest customer base, and this is where the real battle begins.

One of the ways that sportsbooks look to gain an edge is by offering sports betting bonuses. These bonuses come in many different forms, but it all adds up to additional funds or some sort of free bets for the bettor.

Here is a look at four of the most common betting bonuses offered by sportsbooks in the United States.

First Deposit Bonus

The first bonus is what is known as a first deposit bonus, and this is one of the most common offerings from sportsbooks. This type of bonus is only available for new customers, and it must be taken advantage of when signing up for a sports betting account.

A first deposit bonus usually comes in the form of a first deposit match, and some of the top sites will match it all the way up to 100%. Others will offer a smaller percentage but will increase the dollar amount.

These additional funds can come in handy when trying to build up an account.

No Deposit Bonus

Another common betting bonus that you will find at sports betting sites is what is known as a no deposit bonus. This bonus is preferred by many sports bettors because there is no commitment involved in the form of a deposit.

The only major downfall with a no deposit bonus is that the reward is usually pretty small in comparison to a deposit bonus. Some sportsbooks will put funds into your account when signing up at the site, while others will reward a no deposit bonus in the form of a free bet.

Getting anything for free is a great bonus, and it allows you to make some bets without any real commitment.

Risk-Free Bet

Another common sport betting bonus is known as a risk-free bet. Most of the time, you will have to make some sort of a deposit before this bonus is available, but some sites might include a risk-free bet worth a certain dollar amount when signing up.

A risk-free bet is a way for you to make an initial wager at the site, and there is no risk of losing any money if the wager doesn’t win. Your account will be credited for the amount of the wager even if you are unable to make a successful bet.

Parlay Bonus

A parlay bonus is not something that you will find as a welcome bonus, and this is something that is available for current customers as well. Parlay betting has become extremely popular in the US, and sportsbooks are looking to capitalize on that popularity.

This Parlay bonus is usually some sort of percentage boost on a parlay when you hit a certain number of legs. The bonus can increase when you add additional legs onto the parlay.

Another form of a parlay bonus is what is called parlay insurance. This means that if all but one of the legs of your parlay hits, then you will be credited with the amount of the initial wager.
