Best Sportsbooks in New York

New York officially legalized sports betting in 2013, but sportsbooks weren’t able to take any bets until July 2019. This state has the potential to become one of the largest sports betting markets in the United States, but that has simply not been the case.

One of the biggest issues is that there are no retail betting locations in or around New York City, and bettors are also not able to bet online. This has severely limited the potential for growth in New York, but state lawmakers are hoping to fix that issue soon.

New York Retail Betting Locations

Retail sports betting is available at both commercial and tribal casinos, and there are a number of great options in the state. New York has attracted some of the most important sports betting operators, but the location remains a major issue.

Here is a list of some of the retail sportsbooks available in the state of New York:

  • Akwesasne Mohawk Casino
  • Del Lago Resort Casino (DraftKings)
  • Point Place
  • Resorts World Catskills
  • Schenectady (Rivers Sportsbook)
  • Tioga Downs (FanDuel)
  • Turning Stone
  • Yellow Brick Road Casino

New York Online Betting Options

As of March 2021, there are no online sports betting options in the state of New York. That could change in the coming years, but state lawmakers have struggled to pass a piece of legislation that would make this form of betting authorized.

Sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel are expected to be among the first to be launched if online sports betting is an option in the state.

Professional Teams in the New York

New York is one of the best sports markets in the United States, and some of the most popular and famous teams call this state home. These teams will all help drive sports betting, especially when online betting becomes an option.

The National Football League is the most popular sport to bet on in the US, and it is so by a wide margin. The New York Jets and New York Giants technically play in New Jersey, but it is close enough to the state.

Both the Giants and Jets have a massive following throughout the state, but neither team has been very successful in recent years.

The New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets have built up a nice rivalry over the last few years, but neither team has been able to make a run at an NBA Championship. Brooklyn appears to have a solid chance in 2021, while the Knicks are still stuck in rebuilding mode.

In baseball, it is the Mets and Yankees that carry the torch in terms of sports betting. Baseball fans in New York are pretty evenly split when it comes to allegiances, but the Yankees are, without a doubt, the more popular team nationwide.

The New York Islanders and New York Rangers are the two NHL teams that call the state home. Betting on the NHL is not as popular or common as it is in other sports, but these teams do have a pretty large following with residents of the state.
